Apple has allowed you to add widgets from your phone to your computer. There is an indicator when adding it. But it doesn't work well. I don't understand why either.

what is the purpose of a macOS widget which just asks me to open my phone ... am I missing something?

But then why does Lyft give me what looks like a button to order a car? That just doesn’t make sense even from an informational widget perspective.

I think it's just so it doesn't do nothing. If I click it and there is no response, it would feel broken.

I would like to see it trigger some kind of continuity feature or something though. Like let me click it, unlock phone, and then it opens the app on the phone.

cool, thanks! ya I think expected it would match other ux patterns like continuity. Instead of just being a visual indicator.

I think its about: We are going to add widgets to macOS, but it will probably take forever until Mac apps add them, so we support iPhone widgets on Mac. I’m guessing that Apple will add a way for developers to add a "what happens when clicked on on macOS" property soon.

how is that clear, and why would that be-useful?

I kept waiting for a continuity interaction! That's totally what I expected to happen, sadly no ... 😞 maybe in a future update.

Informational, much like the stock ticker on a tv screen. But yeah it would be a better UX if the UI differentiates the non-interactive widgets from others.
