Kicking off a new series where I, a designer with zero coding experience, attempt to build and publish my first iOS app using SwiftUI! In Part 1, I’ll share the prototype I made with Play and some details about the journey. Let’s dive in! 👇
I thought people might find the idea of a camera-based gradient generator cool, but I never imagined it would go viral! Nearly 200k views on X and so many amazing comments—thank you all! 🙌
With all the buzz 🔥, the Play team invited me to do a livestream where I rebuilt the prototype from scratch. It was a great experience, especially since it was my first time presenting publicly. x.com/createwithplay/s…
Play even showcased the prototype alongside other cool projects on their website and in the Play Explore section for everyone to remix 🙏
While the prototype is already quite handy, I believe it deserves to evolve into a native iOS app (and maybe android in the future). This will let me expand its functionality in ways that aren't possible now.
After sharing my idea, I got flooded with messages from iOS developers eager to help bring this app to life. I truly appreciate the offers! But I’ve decided to challenge myself and build it solo. It’s a perfect chance to learn something new...
...no coding background, no clue where to start—just me, and ChatGPT by my side.
I have no idea how long this journey will take—could be 3 days, 3 months, or who knows, maybe I’ll fail completely 😱 But one thing's for sure: I’m going to learn a ton, and I hope you will too!
In Part 2, I'll be installing Xcode, creating a new project, and exploring the environment for the first time. Stay tuned! DK
