do people on linkedin not know you can switch to private mode or do they know but are absolute maniacs that don't care to be seen by the people they're stalking

I use it to my advantage when applying for jobs. I will visit the CEO's page, hiring manager, people I think might interview me, etc. so as to subtly appear in their "People viewed your profile" notifications. No clue if it works lol
I’ve gotten multiple jobs after looking at people’s linkedins but i don’t want to confuse correlation with causation. i have a relatively low ratio of applications to job offers
