Lately, I’ve been practicing writing down my reactions to certain topics that I find interesting. These topics help me verbalize any ideas or frustrations I encounter with culture and design. The erasure of native people is one of them. It’s something I discuss alot amongst my friends, and we all collectively have similar thoughts on the dangers it has on our field of practice. 

I want to preface this by saying, there are sooo many beautiful people and collectives doing the work to ensure marginalized groups are not forgotten in history and are celebrated. These are people who want to see these communities have ownership of their narrative and attain higher positions of power (shoutout to @sow.nyc who have been the biggest supporters for young bipoc creatives ♡) 

However, we cannot ignore that there are people who don’t want to see that happen, and who actively work to ensure these communities do not leave a trace of their memory in the world.

As someone who loves delving into various cultural and sub-cultural facets, it’s heartbreaking to observe the ease with which we erase human contributions to global heritage.

As artists, whether you produce spaces, objects, graphics, or music, it’s so important to preserve and understand the history of different cultures. Our creative practice thrives on the  contributions of these cultures, and many of the things we love are iterations of what a human experiences or comes across in their path."
