Has anyone found a good balance of this is how these components are used / used together for designers using Figma/design library? I want to meet them where they are, but don’t want to make them open the library file each time they have a question.

Apologies! So we have a design library, but a very complex product we work on. It’s important to know how and why different components are laid out together. We’ve utilized templates, but there are patterns / rules that templates don’t completely cover.

Sounds like the problem is to keep up with the documentation of the library (which is complex) with the goal of making that understandable by anyone who jumps into that file, correct?

More like, teach new hires / remind people the guidelines and rules established based on decisions and technical hurdles of the product in the past.

Would a periodic workshop/bootcamp help? Maybe even a loom video if there are not a lot of new updates to the patterns/components.

Good idea! We’ve done workshops here and there, but haven’t touched back since the last new hire in November with a refresh. Could also help getting all this documentation actually documented. 🙃

Or product all hands. We also do that

specific to the library changes? What’s the frequency like?

I’d like to have a place where these rules are documented for designers… and haven’t found a good place to store them. With the library would require designers to always refer back to that file, another file it could be “just another place I have to check”

I’ve seen it done with a plug-in like Gist, but didn’t know if anyone had different experiences / advice.
