I design them by cells and then design by rows. I might do a Header Cell, Body Cell, and Totals or Bottom Cell depending on the requirements.

Out of curiosity when you are designing tables on Figma do you design them by rows or columns?
Interesting, I also typically create the cells first I do table cells and table heading cells. But then I organize the table's content by columns as I find it simplifies content management
Row 1 = Column 1, Column 2, Etc. Row 2= Column 1, Column 2, Etc. Most times I set columns to fill container, but often make the first and last column a fixed width. For things like thumbnail/title/description or a more button.
