Meta’s threads app is a data-mining monster. A free app is free at what cost? Why are we so willing to give tech companies private data—significantly when these companies are pivoting into AI? Not trying to sound like a doomer, but do y’all remember Cambridge Analytica?

People don't understand or don't care. We should all be using Mastodon or some other decentralized platform because we should have learned these lessons, but the creature comforts of centralized networks have most people's brains rotting.

I think that also goes for the people who make the app. If they weren’t data greedy, a centralized network would work.

It would not. Facebook isn’t the core problem, capitalism is. Any social network given enough time and users is incentivized to do if not the same thing, very similar ones

A subscription base model, without ads, and privacy focused might work.
