Galliard or Sabon?
AI generated imagery is postmodern collage, a digital papier collé. Is it art? Maybe. But if it is art - an argument I’m skeptical of but open to -, it is clear that it is a new derivative form, a few steps removed (and distinct) from the other media it leveraged.
I decided to use the 16th-century handwriting of the Ican nobleman Guaman Poma for the typeface on the cover of my upcoming photobook: “The Hill of the Skull.” Here’s a mock-up, including his illustrations.
Working on the cover of my new book and have decided to use a historical typeface for the title: the handwriting of an 16th century Quechua nobleman.
Photobook update. Draft 15 of the story is done, now with 7,187 words. The story ends on a DARK note. Setting it aside for a few weeks while I turn to the photographs... again. Have around 50 images, which feels right.
