Do people who believe they need AI to fulfill their artistic pursuits realize there is literally nothing stopping them from, idk, picking up a pencil or a paintbrush

Specially doing the work in a way that isn't taking other peoples' work and putting it into a blender
AI, in the way Big Tech is pushing it, is just another installment of Control Revolution that has been going on for quite some time in Modern World in name of new tech. It seems to add value but only designed to reduce human's creative-intuitive calibre and potential.
I believe future of AI is more safe in hands of value-driven teams like Mozilla and likes, than BigTech who are more driven by rational-materialism than creative-traditional approach that would benefit individuals, families and society.
