This is both depressing and liberating at the same time.

For the last several years, I have designed my own race suit. This is last season’s, which I will wear again this year. Kicking it off in a week!

Every time someone sets out to “redesign email” they just remove everything from the UI. I’ve never been able to move away from the great utility of Gmail, and I know I’m not the only one. I’ve tried everything else and I always feel I am fighting it, returning just days later.

That time we mailed handwritten postcards to our first 50 and 100 users. First 50 got gold foil, 51-100 silver foil and a variation of the image.

I’m a designer but my background is in fine art. This year I’m getting in touch with that again after a bit of a hiatus. Here’s my latest, a series called The Torment.

Working on animating some of our homepage spot illustrations this week. Made in HTML and CSS. Also implementing Intersection Observer to trigger stop/start so the page doesn't get bogged down. Design 🤝 Code.

In addition to the tri suit I showed here recently, I designed a matching cycling kit. It’s pretty flash, I think ✨

A couple weeks ago, we debuted our new logo. Today, our new brand video. I've never been part of producing a video like this, it was fun. Made by NeverSitStill, of course with some art direction from me.

Why are UI/UX/product designers allergic to complexity? Why is everyone asking about the “creeping complexity” of our tools? The job is inherently complex. The tools should match. Ever seen 3D, CAD software? Animation? Music? Our tools have been laughably basic.

You don’t have to fully & completely know every single feature available to you in your design software. It’s ok to not know things. 

I’ve been using Photoshop for over 20yrs, I don’t know half of it. I haven’t made a new component in Figma since before Variants. It’s all good.
