So @jsiggy @eryc the dark mode drama unfolded with John Collision asking who was patient zero of the Dark Mode contagion. Honestly though I want to know too as to why something like this became an OS level feature.
So it was just tech people designing for themselves? Because I doubt people outside of tech care for a “mode” for this.
Idk I know enough non-tech people that like having the option to switch between light and dark mode. Some of them love dark mode, others hate it. It's nice to have the option for both
Personally I hate that certain android OS’s have forced dark mode which tend to break app UI’s and degrade experiences. Small teams don’t have luxury to prioritise dark mode.
I’m all for dark mode for accessibility tbh, but it isn’t consistent across the web and so many places think it’s just inverting colors which ends up being inaccessible with low contrast. At the places Ive worked, it was added because of requests and preference basically.
yeah I agree! I personally love it but I can see how designers would hate having their work overridden just for the sake of dark. I cant scroll reddit without dark mode for example. That is TOO MUCH TEXT on white.
I feel informed ✨️ I also may be biased because I use dark mode on my personal phone (but will blind myself using light mode on other devices lol) but I'm pro dark mode tbh
