I love being around people but I’m protective of my time and energy.

I learned about a thing in academic research called "water is wet" where a paper states an obvious, self-evident point and stretches it out into a whole paper. I try really hard to not let customer research for design turn into that, but it is hard.

I don't have Posts on my phone so it does feel very reminiscent of internet pre-Smartphone days. When I access it (via browser only!), there might be nice notifications, the content is interesting (made by humans for humans) and no company is trying to sell me anything

Designing and developing for people on a global scale means involving people from different backgrounds. Lived experiences are meaningful. Some things you cant design for without the knowledge of the space and potentially its history. It’s why we see the same thing over and over.

I learned that travelling is actually mentally and physically exhausting. It's more of an opportunity to get a refreshed perspective on the world after being stuck in the same spot for too long.

As a designer I think about “this” a lot, will people even understand what I am making?

I think what startups could also focus on is not only the problem they're solving but the problems their solutions create as well. It opens up a whole new level of thinking which helps you evaluate the real-world performance.

Tips for designers trying to level up:

Take ownership seriously.
Don't just focus on the surface-level design stuff.
Be the expert on the features/products you're working on.
