It’s really tough to make a leap right now in this job market. I really don’t know what to do. 

All I know is something has to change for me.

I’m thinking of leaving product design and going back to an agency. That or growing my freelance business.

Tech just isn’t it for me.

agree. there is plenty of toxicity at some agencies. that didn’t last though….. and I agree with you 💯 on plateauing. honestly.. huge reason for turnover for me.

I think creatives go through seasons. I was freelancing for a while because I wanted variety and get easily bored but I’m down to just follow a (well-designed) company brand book now 🤪

Any reason you don’t want to do brand or marketing in tech? No judgement just curious …

A lot of reasons, but mainly that the work I enjoy doing is on the brand and marketing side moreso than the product.

This is a good description. It’s stressful but in a good way (depending on the agency 😅… I’ve been in some ones that were toxic af). While I learned a lot being in product for 6 years… I’ve felt like my growth and craft really plateaued and that’s not a good feeling.

contracting with an agency now, and its fast, I don’t have time to waste time, and I’m able to push my limits.. in a good way….. I have three projects going at a time. It’s wild, but kind of refreshing

slowly coming to realize this too….. although I’m currently on the hunt, the more and more I interview, the less and less I want to keep talking to product people at a mid to big org. Some exciting stuff and so flooded with peeps like me, looking. But honestly.. it’s mostly meh..

I really miss the variety of clients and projects I had in my agency days!

Ya if you love variety then freelance / agency is a good move :)

I’m not opposed to it but there are very few companies that I’d be willing to sacrifice that for
