My take is that “Floating panels”made the information presented on them difficult read or use due to very little area and constraints on the panels, thereby causing a learnability problem (cognitive overload) and directly impacting user efficiency.

hot take: I *really* liked the floating panels in UI3. 🌶️ Floating panels made the canvas underneath feel expansive. Like clouds floating over a vast landscape. Fixed panels make me feel like I'm viewing the canvas through a fixed window. Like I've got snorkel goggles on.
