I think it will be similar to every new jump in technology, old skills will become cheap as dirt, but there will be more designers needed. Just with slightly different skills.

What is the future of design jobs with AI growing at such a speed?

Designing AI products for niches. Discovering problems to solve.

Agreed, I think adoption will be a lot slower than expected also. Maybe less opportunities in tech savvy resourceful companies but this makes up such a small amount of total addressable market.

I think the risk is much larger for designers who are focused on getting a brief and delivering a graphic today. If designers are knowledgeable about AI, their jobs will be safer.
