Vercel (in collaboration with Basement Studio) just dropped a stunning new font with sans and mono variations. Is Geist going to be the new Inter?

Geist Font — Vercel
Geist is a typeface made for developers and designers, embodying Vercel's design principles of simplicity, minimalism, and speed, drawing inspiration from the renowned Swiss design movement.

I still believe that most typefaces are designed for commercial reasons, just to make money or for identity purposes. In reality the number of good typefaces is rather limited and most of the new ones are elaborations on pre-existing faces. /🍝

True also in the king run it can be cheaper to just have your own made because licensing these days is pretty expensive

I was kind kind of joking at first but yeah this is true. Neo-grotesques are probably the most guilty. There's also a decent OFL pool now.

-- just ranting at this point -- but they're variations on Helvetica (or Arial) a variation of Akzidenz, which improved beyond Helvetica with Unica. all for an iconically neutral family tree
