I asked, “What message do you want to receive and/or what message do you want to send, but haven’t yet?”
I created an installation of my “studio” inside a gallery space as a way to connect with students. I invite them to sit down and leave me a voice message on the phone or on a “While You Were Out” pink slip. (Also, not my desk, I WISH!)
Both students and faculty have left messages! And the majority of them are messages about love, regret, and loss. ♥️
As a part of the installation, I transcribed 80 messages I have *kept* since 2018 and took poetic license of what I transcribed (revealing specific parts of messages while intentionally leaving parts out).
I included a handmade book, an ongoing collaboration with my partner and collaborator Abram Stern. Images, sounds, and various forms of media serve as prompts (very few to no words) and we respond in any way we like to other.
