I used to work in-house at a publishing company and hated it. I now work at an agency and have been for almost 5 years now. I love the amount of experience you can get from it with the huge variety of work, but it can be so taxing. My next move is going back to in-house.

If you're fresh in the industry, the agency experience can be beneficial. Try it for a couple years for the portfolio, client exposure, and getting a glimpse of the business side of design when working with clients. Just got to keep your boundaries up. It can be ruthless.

So for my next career move, I'm either going back to in-house or going freelance and opening my own studio with all of the stuff I've learned. I don't regret working in an agency, but I 100% do need a break from it after all these years. Feel free to DM me if you have any Q's!

Good luck on your next move! I've been at agencies for the past 8 years, so yeah I think I've had enough

I think its nice to have both experiences. Working in-house you are more likely to see your designs used in real life and iterate over time, which is a great learning experience. There is less variety in projects though, so it might get boring. Agency was the opposite for me.
