Okay, I gave in and implemented masonry layout on Collecta. I personally preferred the baseline-aligned, helped scan artifacts quicker. It was also confirmed by my research in 2020 on that topic!

But it was a user request, and the platform user base small, so couldn't say no!

Had to fumble with passing the collection id a little, but now pasting artifacts while in a collection page assigns that collection tag to the artifact!

Passed 5K artifacts on Collecta today! 

I mean I satisfy my gatherer needs, but I probably go back to like 30% of that content.

Need to find a way to resurface.

It was painful, but I got it! Managed to get auth going for the Collecta mobile app. 

Still a long way to go obv.

Experimenting with the add artifact interaction on collecta.space. The goal is to make it more explicit on what kind of stuff can you collect.

Call me a code monkey (obviously), but I cannot comprehend how GPT-4 could not notice this simple mistake during 6 hours of me debugging the `undefined` issue. 

Mind you, I fed it the lib docs, so I was following every “debug advice” it gave me.

I take all my dislike toward JS ecosystem back. 

Recently I have been working with a friend on his Rails web app.

A few days ago went to the National Gallery of Art in DC. While the works collected in the museum are pure treasure, I must emphasize how joyful the typography & layout design of the navigation signs are as well! 

And it's free! Highly recommend.

I received some criticism that calling it “unlimited” is confusing.

Does this variant explain it better and seem more fair?

A few people complained they didn't like the nav text overlap with the content, so I decided to revamp the header a little bit so that the nav stands out on scroll.

A lot of people say how they appreciate 37signals confronting the norm, yet they criticize the UI design.

I think that's the beauty of powerful design—it has character. It helps complete the task, yet you can recognize the writing. 

Wish them more of that in 2024.

There's quite a few catalogs of site footers, headers, heros, typography, and all that.

What about sales design? The actual commercial design stuff source. The one that marketers crave for, the one that holds your hand all the way to the checkout.

Building a simple estimated tax calculator.

A company sells apps that can be owned (expensive single purchase), and offers a subscription to use them all (think Adobe CC).

However, oney paid for subscription goes towards credit to own the apps.

So technically not a “subscription”. How would you call this?

Wow this took much longer than I thought it would. URLs are hard! 

Added an ability to add a bio and a link to the profile. Wanted to allow quick editing with no form submissions (like with collection titles). That's what took a while.

While applying for a freelance job, there was a free “rate your resume with TopResume” offer, and I was like yeah whatever.

I printed my resume from read.cv. Just FYI @andy it looks “uneven“, lol.

Hiring culture is poison.

Getting super confused with React Native Expo and Share extensions. It looks like Expo does not support them, but there's a bunch good quality repos showing examples on how to do it.

However neither support native views, so some manual Swift still required.

Spent the entire day teaching figuring out how to teach the browser extension to save images from Instagram. 

IG hides all the images behind invisible layers, so you can't right click on them.

Honestly having fun with marketing stuff for Collecta. I was always afraid of marketing assets design, but I do believe in designer's versatility—I need to do it more!
