Also, very important rule: never wash a Bialetti with soap it’s better for the taste 😶😅 I have sooo many of my old ones at home, I just can’t part with them — but we mostly use our Chemex these days.

I've been brewing manually with a Hario v60 pourover for filter brew, and then Aeropress when I want an iced coffee. Or I'll make cold brew with a cloth bag.

What about those Italian style Moka pots for the stove? 

I'm Chemex team but I have been considering one of those for the casual espresso.

Funny, I went the other way around. 
We always had an espresso machine at my parents home. Then I went Chemex into adulthood, and now I'm considering a Moka pot :-) 

At a friends place I really enjoyed the taste of the Moka pot espresso, but I'm not sure if is consistent.

I won’t tell you a specific machine but I will say, if you really like espresso and think you’ll make drinks for others, go ahead and get a dual boiler to start with because you will grow out of a single boiler in 2 years easy lol

Mac home machine would be La Marzocco Mini/Micra. If you can afford it, it’s one for life (I use the larger one at work everyday). Gaggia machines are also a solid choice. I suggest putting 1/3 of your budget in a decent grinder regardless ☕️ good luck

i have the rocket as well and it’s been treating me good for the past year (: ditto on getting a good grinder.

The rocket is a pretty amazing home : commercial option. Its built to last plus it doesnt kill counter space like others. You def need a good grinder (there are many). If you want to dive deep there is nothing like pulling your own espresso..

i have the niche which is nice cuz you can make it as fine as you need to. the down side is you have to weigh every shot and pour it into the portafilter.

i also have a baratza sette but since i switched to decaf it doesn’t grind fine enough 🫠

I think one that was in use might be helpful for better flavor… i had an Italian woman next to me for years she really had the moka dialed.

I second this. I went moka pot>chemex>espresso machine and ended up doubling back to get a v60. About to get a v60 switch 🤣

I think most people should start out with these, they are great way to get into espresso the old fashioned way. If you dont love it you saved a lot of money : )
