What do you enjoy the most about the switch?

Last month, I've transitioned back to being an IC after being a manager for a couple of years. AMA.

Are your responsibilities as an IC different now, compared to before you became a manager?

I like the fact that leadership is something that exists regardless of your title, so I'm happy to continue to lead my team but in a different manner

What I don't like so much is how the "manager" title carries some weight for non-design roles, so some extra homework to do there

To some degree yes. I think there are manager styles and in my case I never really stopped designing, just did less than before. But the biggest change is career development for others—I love mentoring, but being in charge and semi-accountable for others performance can be hard.
