[Quality of Life Update] Paint Select Card and Line Options

- Previous 'Connect' button replaced with an icon only
- Separate 'CARD' and 'LINE' buttons replace the previous single/combined options button, to make revealing options feel more purposeful and take up less space

http://npm.anvaka.com/#/view/2d/waterline is the kind of dependency visualization that should be built into the @npmjs site. It would help so many ppl understand the ramifications of their packages - a necessity for fast, secure, programs.

The next Kinopio release will be another performance release. The scariest/oldest/largest card and connection logic is being pulled apart and rewritten to perform *much* faster. 

Technically, it's a huge change – but if everything goes well you won't even notice.

[Little Update]
In the paint select dialog , 'LINE' and 'CARD' vertical labels added to make things a bit easier to figure out which buttons apply to what item type

what enterprise software that you have to use at work do you personally enjoy using? (if any)

Also working on some tweaks to the multi select dialog:

- 'Connect' button replaced with just an icon button
- To make item options feel more purposeful and take up less space: separate 'CARD' and 'LINE' options buttons replace the single/combined options button

Reducing the amplitude/jiggly-ness of card jiggling while dragging to try and find a nice middle ground between whimsy and utility (as always paint selecting cards before dragging disables the jiggling entirely)

Following and Everyone Feeds [New]

To make it easier to find cool new spaces and people, Explore gets a new design with Following and Everyone. 

I like the way that creator names and larger preview images work together to create that lively, messy, human feeling of community

After so much context switching and new feature work, there's a clarity that comes with "I have these 3 bugs to fix today, and that's all I'm going to do"

Treating myself by doing a fun little experimental project today. It's important to take time off from bug fixes to re-discover the fun of programming

Posts feature requests that I still wish for after a year or so~,
 
- I wish long URLs didn't count against the character count (I know that's a harder problem to solve than it seems)
- I wish the website supported dragging and dropping images/videos

Brian Eno, asking the real question:

"Why aren't programmes for grown-ups made with the same assumptions: viz, people are inpatient, want results quickly, prefer good rapport to endless options, are more concerned about easy usability than high fidelity"

Tilt/Resize improvements:
- Prevent accidentally tilting/resizing when you meant to click the card
- Added a bit more visual feedback to the corners when hovered/active
- Improve reliability of double-clicking edges to reset

Linked Space Previews [New]

Do you have lots of spaces, like 100s or 1000s (like I do)? Little preview images next to each of your spaces, and community spaces, make it easier to visually find the space you're looking for.

It's been long enough: time to finally refactor the 3000 lines long Card.vue component file. 

Easily the scariest file in the app because Kinopio cards have so many possible user interactions.

We're trained to see messiness as the enemy, but – so long as you have a way to filter/search the chaos when you need to – lots of magical things happen when you embrace messiness instead

Making a pro grade tool that’s fully functional on both desktop and mobile is actually pretty rare. 

The UI can’t take up too much room and you can’t use hover to reveal options, it has to work in Safari, it has to be fast,  light, and have a small memory footprint.

For the social systems I'm building, I'm really curious about how posts get highlighted here? Are highlighted posts handpicked? is there some kind of ranking algorithm? or some combination of the two? (cc @andy)

I don't know how anyone could be into devops – it's like being a programmer, but with none of the fun parts, having to be on call, and a million times more stress. And also no one else knows what devops is

Sometimes I look at other CEOs and their inspiring 100+ heart tweet threads and think "I wish I was that compelling of a communicator". 

But also, I'm fixing servers and building features. My hands are worn, my pants flecked with sawdust. And I wouldn't trade that for likes.
