Yeah I mean I grew up literally a stone’s throw from the Sistine Chapel 😝 but also I have a background in applied arts and worked in the art “industry” and it’s the worstttttt. So like you say it’s like “ugh no but totally yes” 🙈

(But I totally understand the sentiment, I do, because I would love to see art completely “removed” from capitalism and I think in some cases it is or can be)

Ideally when we think of art we (want to) imagine it to spread the message of the artist as opposed to the message of the person paying for the art. Does that make sense? Like, were art patrons just.. VCs? 🫠

Hahaha yeah I absolutely agree with you here! I think I’m more talking about the fact that the patronage (at least centuries ago) came with strings attached — including supporting religious and political powers.
