I would say it depends. If that’s your style and personality, then that should show in your portfolio (or if you want jobs where you are able to be bright). Mine is minimal because that’s my design style 🙂 that being said, the work in portfolio should be the main focus too👌🏼

It fits your style and looks good, I’d run with it if it’s what you like, esp for advertising. Can’t please everyone if you’re trying to be yourself. If the job is about working for a specific brand, you can always put together a separate deck just for them that’s in their style.

It’s like makeup: you do it for you first, fun second, other folks third. But I also dunno what your version of“bright, colorful and bold” looks like, so maybe they had a point, maybe they were just boring

Be true to yourself and find people that appreciate your style.

Depends on the context — if it’s your personal website then take it with a grain of salt. If its a portfolio presentation and the slides colors were distracting from your story or work then I’d have a second look at it, get a second opinion from peers, friends or loved ones.

Incorrect. It’s a good way to filter out those who wouldn’t appreciate your style. Congrats on dodging that bullet.
