Is there anything you've been seeing that has been particularly mind-blowing? I feel like I'm missing the big deal lol Granted, I'm not on X so the topics I see are more criticisms/critique of AI..

I think something that worries me more than the whole "you're going to be replaced by AI" thing is people becoming too reliant on buggy/insufficient technology and people being even dumber than they already are lol

Oh for sure, what’s that Linus quote? “You copy and pasted code you don’t understand, as a result your code is shit” - something like that. Same rule applies with LLM code generation.

It seems like LLMs have specifically wreaked havoc on education in a very short time which is.. scary Especially when education was already suffering from the pandemic, like it's the perfect storm of problems for teachers to deal with..

The university I went to here in the UK has implemented a checker for these sorts of LLMs, it’s had some success in detecting students using them for their work but I agree, it’s still scary.

It's just irritating that these technologies are unleashed onto the world with very little consideration as to how every day people are supposed to deal with the various repercussions.. It's infuriating

Jamie I heard this on the radio and thought of you: an Austrian activist (same one who went after Meta/FB) is suing OpenAI / ChatGPT on the grounds of infringement of GDPR (if chatGPT is asked about this guy‘s bday, a wrong answer is given, and this false info cannot be deleted)

I kinda love that there are activists doing this kind of work — especially to keep certain companies from thinking they’re above any kind of laws. ✌🏼✊🏽

Ooh yes, I saw an article about the lawsuit.. Will be interesting to see how it pans out 👀 It really isn’t asking for much, imo.. With any kind of technology you should be able to fix a mistake. But ChatGPT is special because it’s never “wrong”, it just “hallucinates”..

Also nice to know people associate me with these types of things hehehe

Actually the more annoying thing is people overestimating what AI can do because of all the hype around it. It’s just the early days but convincing people it’s not ready for general purpose seems to be hard.

Yeah I get the “you won’t have your software developer job much longer” from a few family members etc and I have to explain how it makes a lot of mistakes
