Yes, in big tech being hands-on is not the case, but even in today's market, work in big tech is not as safe as before. Maybe some people are still safe, but it's random. So my mindset is no matter where I work, freelance or full hours, I work as a freelancer technically
Reading such blogs feels alienating. At least in the industry I have observed, the need for a design leader being hands-on has always been the case.
