Purely anecdotal but anytime someone has assured me "don't worry, I'll follow up with you" — 100% of the time they do not do that lol And it may be a "polite" way of telling me "for the love of god please don't message me" but idk, there must be a better way

Usually this happens when I say something along the lines of "I'll check in on [day/timeline] if I don't hear anything" which makes it odder imo.. But now bc I don't believe certain people I'll also say "worst case is it doesn't work out and that's ok"

I guess sometimes you have to set your own expectations, because you can at least trust your own gut for the most part
