Purely anecdotal but anytime someone has assured me "don't worry, I'll follow up with you" — 100% of the time they do not do that lol And it may be a "polite" way of telling me "for the love of god please don't message me" but idk, there must be a better way

oh it’s my pet peeve when people don’t set the right expectations. sometime i provide those people padding by saying, “hey its completely okay if this isn’t your thing or I’m not the right person. i’d much rather have you be honest than nice”.
Usually this happens when I say something along the lines of "I'll check in on [day/timeline] if I don't hear anything" which makes it odder imo.. But now bc I don't believe certain people I'll also say "worst case is it doesn't work out and that's ok"
I guess sometimes you have to set your own expectations, because you can at least trust your own gut for the most part
