you’ve got an amazing community in read cv. i’m so curious what the initial instinct and catalyst was to pursue Posts? was it planned a while back?

Hopefully we can show that there’s merit to engaging/sharing in authentic/personal way online. Similar vibe to the demos and chill event that @yitong hosts - no agenda, but cool things may serendipitously come out of it.

Ahhh, I see what you mean! I think that’s a good decision! I would suggest to consider hiding comment/share/like and indicators from the main feed to keep things clean and don’t encourage people to interact with posts based on social interaction counts but rather the content

We raised a seed round (1.5M) in February 2021 - mostly angels, no institutional investors. We run pretty lean and have a couple years of runway left.

Giving users the possibility to be featured / highlighted disregarding followers or likes is working great. But eventually hard to make it work at scale without algorithms.

We started work on Posts in November when Twitter first started to show signs of losing its way. We made the bet despite thinking the twitter stuff would blow over, but that’s proven to not be the case.

I think changing peoples incentives to post - stuff like not showing vanity metrics is an intentional start at this. Also highlights that optimize for a positive vibe vs an algorithm that maximizes engagement/outrage.

The response has been super wild! Continuing to share the app with diverse and unique voices in design/technology/art/life is the #1 thing we can collectively do to make this a space worth coming back to

Alternatively there could be a world where we become entirely community supported 🤷‍♂️ there are a few avenues to explore and see what sticks.

When we first started read.cv we actively told people we did not want to start a social network because that need was filled. But things changed and given the community we already had it made too much sense not to pursue this.

We hope that by creating a more engaging every day space it will help grow our current job listing business. I think there will be other opportunities to monetize as well, but not interested in turning this into a pure ads business like twitter or anything.

Sorry, following/follower count on profile is what I meant - less influencer status

I think when you have this many smart and talented people in a room businesses naturally want to get involved. Job listings is our current one, but there are likely more opportunities for creative partnerships (that are more valuable than feed ads).

when might we be able to see CV statuses as part of Posts? is that planned?

We will probably explore both options - I can’t say we know for sure what will stick or feel right yet. But we aren’t looking to turn this into a feed ad supported business

Just getting table stakes stuff done and out of the way - video, web app, android. It would be cool to have a desktop app.
