@sigsound @jsiggy can’t walk a block without seeing someone shooting up heroin or passed out in their own shit. begging on almost every street corner. workers protests all over town. all the while this same city hosts the wealthiest businesses and people in the entire world.

I was just there last weekend and didn’t see any of that. Not all of SF is like that… it’s a city with good and bad neighborhoods.

When did you live here? Also curious where you live now and have lived before?

Too far detached from the US to comment on its specific situation, but in many European cities homelessness tends to rise with the rise of over-tourism, as real estate prices go up.

It’s probably not the case with SF, but the tech scene does the same thing when it comes to driving the real estate prices and cost of living through the roof. That has a correlation with homelessness.

In SF's case it's uniquely callous given this whole "save the world" farce the tech community engaged with.. In reality the richest and most privileged people are allergic to solving real problems like homelessness

completely agree and sf is not what it used to be :( sf genuinely used to be so safe pre-pandemic and I remember how lively powell used to be walking around with my family but it's virtually devoid of the warmth it once had
