It’s a bit different because Roastful is a curator. But specialty roasters roast at least 1-2x per week based on order and usually ship the day after. In my case, the coffee is often too fresh / not ready to drink when I receive it :)

It all depends (as far as timing) but the reason is after roasting allowing your beans to degas and release some CO2 helps with flavor and brew consistency. 

A few weeks after roast seems to be the sweet spot

Filter
Dark: 2 days
Medium: 4-5 days
Light: 10 days or more

Espresso

Some suuuuuper solid answers in this thread for when to drink freshly roasted coffee. 👌🏻 I usually wait between 1-2 weeks before brewing. I’m more prone to start brewing 1 week after the roast date though because I’m eager to brew my new coffee lol.

I missed that this was two messages, my bad. That’s good to know. I’ve been picking up 450g bags from a local roaster and try (and fail) to get through them within 3-4 weeks. Do you happen to know why it’s worth waiting, when the right time is, and when it’s no longer good?

How do you determine when it’s ready? I’ve been buying beans from a local roaster so usually when I buy it’s been only 2-3 days since it was roasted.

I’ll probably end up doing that one from your recommendations. Where would to go for one-off experiments? I’m still pretty new and the rule of thumb I keep seeing is to brew within 1-3 weeks of roasting. Is that accurate/does ordering online complicate that?

Coffees from Roastful will mostly be medium roasts. They’ll receive freshly roasted coffee from their roasters, then ship to subscribers. Since the coffee’s shipped twice, it should be ready to drink by the time you receive it. Each coffee should also include roast dates. :)

I would say that you should let it rest for at least 2 weeks before opening it and drinking it. Then I usually try to finish the bag within a month. But nowadays bags are smalls (250gr) and I’m brewing 30g/day. To give you an idea, I’m on a 3 bags/month subscription.
