I am a Canadian transplant in America and... I have grown to like the American way ๐ Having to quickly figure out the tip with someone holding the terminal always feels a bit stressful lol

hello americans ๐โโ๏ธ why do restaurants still do the leave the credit card, the wait staff processes it, and comes back with a bill that you write a tip and sign off on thing? never really got that... just let me tap with my phone and be on my way ๐ซ
It's becoming more prevalent (usually at casual spots) but my guess is that some POS systems don't have support for machines, or most places don't want to invest in them. I also think there's a bit of expected ceremony involved when paying at nicer restaurants.

I met a Canadian in like, 2013 who told me they were dumbfounded by the antiquated card payment systems in America. Australia, on the other hand, has it figured out. No tipping, just tap to pay. It's everywhere, so easy.
