Some say this is why user research is so important before going too far down the path. But I’ve found that you end up not with data that proves that people care—but with data that proves that people *say* they care. You can never really know until you’ve built it in some form.

Completely agree with this! You can ask people what they want all the time, you can't be sure it's the right thing for them until you put it out in front of them.
