a self-hosted CMS? I can't stress enough how into that I'd be. Yes.

Especially if the import was the JSON and not the nextjs project. I'd very much like to not use nextjs.

You and me both on that last point. Yeah so the initial idea was just to build a simple admin interface into the profile site itself

What I like about it is 1) People's profiles/sites doesn't go to waste 2) Non-coding folks can still actively edit and update their profiles/sites 3) People 'own' their code so there's no platform to disappear 4) We maintain the community hub / readcv homepage experience

Yeah, I'm 100% into that.

Were you thinking of a different approach or something like that too?

no that's also what I was picturing! Like I used read.cv for my "professional" site not because I couldn't build it myself, but because if I changed it often I wouldn't want to mess with code.

I’ve thought about this for so long and literally the reason I didn’t build it was readcv existed, had all the fields I wanted, etc. Why is there no “personal CMS”?!

Mark Tomlinson

Exactly. Now they've made us go and build things...argh.

Decided to build this, for myself if nothing else. Thanks for the comments and likes - all super helpful. If anyone wants to know more, has great ideas for it, or just wants to be notified when it's ready, do feel free to reach out

Thanks, Taurean. I hold your initial enthusiasm largely responsible for me taking this path of folly. Seriously, though, I might reach out in a few days to bounce some ideas off you, if you're not adverse to that? Been loving what you've done for the community with bsky

I don’t mind at all! I love talking through product problems. Hit me up whenever, dm or email.

Id be into that. Self hosted profiles, and supporter backed community hub (for hosting costs)

We could keep the newsletter going too

God. The newsletter.

I was planning of scraping all of the templates and trying to figure them out with astro- its what i know for a lightweight blogging system but def not a self hosted cms

Mark Tomlinson

Ah that’s interesting I hadn’t considered the different templates but would be cool to support those

Shafikh

it would be a big shame to have them go to waste, it would be lovely to have a massive repo to pick and choose from - wont be as smooth as sites.cv but hopefully wont be a headscratcher

Sounds like a solid idea.
