Not sure how the problem was framed, but in my experience design assignments are often used to see how designers frame and define problems, and what they choose to focus on. Creating outstanding UI on top of that is just one part of the equation.

They were asking for a solution (wireframes, prototype) to at least one of the problems listed (really broad). I did some research, spoke to users, decided the line of action and ideated a solution. I was left with less than a day to build accessible UI and i panicked 😕

I don't think the expectation is to come up with a perfect, accessible interface. You've already shown what you choose to focus on (research, user conversations, plan of action) and if that's what that team values that is good!

Showing the direction that you were going in with UI, being able to articulate what you'd do if you have more time, and being honest and acknowledging that you aren't satisfied with where you are is enough in my book.

For a design challenge, I spent ~52% of my time preparing some presentation slides to show how I thought about & would solve the problem. The other half of my time was spent doing some fairly simple UI to demonstrate my ideas. In total I spent 11 hrs on the challenge

Yes! I also assign a fair amount of time to make some strong slide to get my point across. But in some other assignment the feedback was the UI wasn’t at the level they required. That feedback has been haunting me ever since!

I know… i find these challenges pretty absurd. Time consuming and not representing how you would do in a real job. But here in Spain they’re pretty common, plus since i come from another field, i’m constantly asked to prove my product skills
