Current: Studio Display + Mac Studio with Keyboard + Mouse. Honestly. Probably my favorite setup I've ever had. I obviously splurged a bit. Not necessary at all imo, but I did. ha. I do not have a mobile machine... which I sort of miss. But I am more settled down, so this works.

I personally would love an 13" iPad Pro (whatever new design they come up with) + Magic Keyboard that I can open Figma on. That would be all I need as far as a mobile machine. Having a Desktop Mac + MacBook combo feels redundant for my needs. I don't go that often.

do you think it'd be comfortable to design on an iPad? 🤔

With the right peripherals, I bet it wouldn’t be to far from a smaller laptop.

Full time. Idk. Probably not. 😅 But pair that with 3rd Gen Apple Vision Pro? You might have something. 😁 Purely speculating lol

disclaimer: i was using different macbooks, usually up-to-date, but it was still a single macbook with just a touchpad, not even a mouse

MacBook + monitor + mouse for me, I personally really like it and I’m not used to doing design work without anymore…but I also don’t think it’s necessary! A ton of people can do great work with just a laptop imho 🤍

i've also heard that once you try macbook + monitor + mouse there's no going back lol

Yeah maybe, I might feel like that hahaha. I do love that setup for myself 🤍 I like to be able to have two screens, but even when I keep my laptop shut and just work off my ultra wide monitor it’s really nice 😍

i like designing on my macbook but i keep to-do lists/research/references/video calls on my monitor. seeing everything at once helps me be more productive (and somehow more distracted too lol) and having a mouse helps w wrist strain

i like the idea of separating different tasks to different screens!

At work I have 2 monitors setting but usually use only one. It seems very intimate that everybody can look at my emails, designs in progress of working or how I arrange reaserch notes etc.

can relate to the intimate part at work i like your setup and the way you use space for different tools!

To be honest, since I have a panoramic 4k monitor at home...its a gamechanger. Figma on one side, Figjam with workshop notes on the other, and post-workshop notes/guidelines on laptop. Beside that when it comes to mouse/tablets etc...depends on what youre more used to :)

I use iMac + mouse + keyboard, I also use macbook without mouse, only touchpad. Now I want to buy an iPad with Pencil.

Of course no setup is a mandatory one but the stark difference in simple enjoyment of usage does go up for me if I have a nice high refresh rate monitor and a quality mouse along with a fast SSD. I started my design journey early enough where I never got used to a mac though.

I have a full setup: MBP, monitor and keyboard/mouse for the days when I work at my studio. On the other hand, MBP is totally fine on its own when working at some cafe or something. You need whatever you’re comfortable with, nothing more or less than that.
