Currently, I'm using Cron as my calendar (it's connected to your Google Calendar, but it's aesthetically better for me) and sometimes Microsoft To-Do for tasks. Have you taken a look at Amie? Some people say it's a great tool!

Cron looks great, but I primarily use Apple Calendar so I'll have to wait for that integration. Amie looks promising but I've been on their waitlist for over a year at this point 🥲

How about Dawn? As Apple Calendar + Reminders user I can say it might be worth a try: apps.apple.com/ru/app/dawn-mi…

‎Dawn - Minimal Calendar
‎This is Dawn, the minimal calendar to organize everything. Designed from the ground up, it's the most minimal and powerful calendar ever created. "Not overloaded with many features and design gimmicks like other calendars, simple and straight to the point that’s what I love. By far the best app tha…

This looks really beautiful, I'm definitely going to check this out. I do wish they had a browser or desktop app though!

That’s all I can give for now) Btw Morgen might support (not sure though) Apple integration…?

Pete Andrel

Very useful! Morgen used to support Apple Calendar but then revoked it? And still doesn't support Reminders to my knowledge, but they're an exciting one to watch

Idk honestly. I didn't go into it as I don't really like the design

Still trying to figure obsidian out. Need to use it more

Pete Andrel
Replying to @roe @aamin

I’ve used it for several years and I’m still trying to figure out how to best use it. It requires a lot of tweaking to get right.

indeed i now just use it with minimal folder structure + quality of life plugins keeping things simple with obsidian is the only method that has worked for me without causing headaches

Google Calendar and Notion for all the things

Pete Andrel

Do you handle all of your tasks in Notion?

Jenny Famularcano
Replying to @peat

I do! It links to all of my projects and areas so it’s nice to keep track of all in one place

Pete Andrel
Replying to @skybluejenny

How do you handle non-project tasks? I've tried PARA before, but never been satisfied with how tasks like "do the dishes" fit in with more serious project work

Jenny Famularcano
Replying to @peat

I have those connected directly to my areas, otherwise they hang out as a task with no project or area that gets treated as an inbox.

I’m trying to stick it out in Obsidian for now 👌🏻

It’s such a powerful note-taking tool, but absolutely miserable for any kind of project or task management. I wish I didn’t find myself needing to attach notes to projects & tasks so often, I’d use Obsidian full time and find something else for task management

I've been tackling this lately and planning on writing about it once I land on something that has proven to work for a while: - Obsidian for mentioning/referencing an ongoing task/project - Things for keeping a log of things I'm responsible for - Things is the source of truth for what I need to do still and what is marked as done. - calendar for tracking what I'm responsible for that day. I've been starting my day blocking off time on my calendar for each task. Blocked off time doesn't mean...

Thanks for the well-though-out response! iirc there was a Things to Obsidian plugin, do you use that to any effect?w

Taurean Bryant

I don’t think I’ve seen that but probably wouldn’t use it if I did. I won’t want a note for every task. I look at it like I might want a note for different people in my contacts but I don’t want my contacts syncing with my notes. Only when I have something to say/link

Have you looked at Ellie?

Pete Andrel
Replying to @kyla

I have! But it just feels like a worse version of Fantastical?

Kyla Medina
Replying to @peat

I thought Fantastical was mostly just a calendar app. I would describe Ellie more like Amie, a task list where you can add to-do items to your calendar for time blocking.

Pete Andrel
Replying to @kyla

That’s pretty much what Fantastical is too, but the task portion is fully integrated with Apple Reminders

I’ve tried Obsidian a couple times and left it. I’ve tried leaving Things a couple times and kept coming back. Aside from that it’s just the stock Apple stuff. There are benefits to sticking to simple things that’ll be round forever, even if imperfect.

Pete Andrel
Replying to @endquote

I wish I could stick to stock everything, but I constantly find myself missing features from more specialized tools

just wanted to share that for personal planning I use TimeStripe, because I like their way to display days, weeks, months, etc; for quick notes it’s a native Notes app

I went down the path of trying to use Notion as my everything app. I now have just focused on building good habits and systems in Craft + Things + Google Calendar.
