This is such a tough area; companies either seem to do a wonderful job of providing these opportunities, or a very poor job (“checkbox training”)
Does anyone feel like they have structured learning opportunities at work? (e.g.: You have interest in learning/upskilling and there is a system in place to help you get the right resources to do so - courses, mentors, projects to build exp, etc.)
I'm with you on this. I also think asking about it from where you work at, can be a really good place to start.
Yes and no: there’s no clear budget in place (ie no per person amount) so it makes it hard to know what’s ok and what’s too expensive. At the same time we have 10% learning time on the job (ie 10% of your work hours can go towards learning smtg of ur choice)
We can pick the courses we want usually — for example one of the designers asked for access to moonlearning so now everyone on the design team has access to the subscription for these Figma / design courses.
Annual Learning Budgets are great. Add some accountability by presenting what you have learned to your team so not only is the knowledge shared, but also others are aware of your new capabilities.
