I’m not sure if you saw the reports recently but I guess they were working on adding full screen unstoppable “ad breaks” until users caught wind and were like… fuck no
Meta is working overtime to make sure nobody wants to use Instagram. Just opened it for the first time in a while and they served me this insane in-feed 4-up ad format. i can imagine the the user story: “As a user, i want to see 4 ads at once, so i can consume more ads”
oof. it’s starting to feel like that regardless. I watch 1 ig story and then i see two (poorly targeted) ads back to back. It’s a weird place to be now
It’s been a few years since I worked there, but they don’t promote designers, PM’s, or engineers based on how well they adhere to “user stories” — it’s about growth of engagement metrics unless you’re in a team working on the long term vision of XR software/hardware.
It took me some time, but I finally accept the reality that the size of the company is a huge factor in why the incentives are what they are.
Taking the “creator” out of the “creator economy.” 🫠 Not a fan of this at all.
You know what I frigging miss? Photos getting proper exposure and not reels. I do photography and all we have left is *checks notes* Flickr. Barely.
