Less professional… more personal. (Less polish) But that’s just what I want.. maybe others hope it’ll help them with networking and career laddering.. which could be a great thing. But I personally am hoping it becomes more of an early Twitter / early dribbble vibe.

Forums vibe!

tranhelen
Replying to @mikael @drewwilson

You want to see me create forum flashing gif signatures?

tranhelen
Replying to @mikael @drewwilson

My signature banners once got so flashy other members got mad about it and asked me to size down to only one bouncing marquee

Mikael
Replying to @tranhelen @drewwilson

We’d make much sleeker sigs now

tranhelen
Replying to @mikael @drewwilson

Speak for yourself. wweb3 tells me marquees are back

The eye searing volt colour ticker tape trend is kinda hot tho, I get it

I would hope it’s a genuine / honest mix of design as a career and the people behind it. I am a sucker for getting swept up in the $400k TC job chat at insert big company here so I do want to see cliche tech bro stuff but there’s also rockstars at some startup in Delhi…….

James Drake 👋
Replying to @tranhelen

The incessant need to grow grow grow a company to please shareholders and stakeholders for the sake of valuation is what ruins most nice new things. Because some colossal boring dildo comes along and says “wow cool….how can THIS be the next *insert unicorn here*

tranhelen
Replying to @drakee

I think you and I are going to have a differing opinion here. I work for a VC firm—it doesn’t have to be that way, nor is that the goal of all business!

tranhelen
Replying to @drakee

You are right that hyper-growth has negative consequences, but Post isn’t going to solve late stage capitalism.

The way it’s linked to a profile that you should actually be filling out with your accomplishments is actually huge and underrated thus far.

tranhelen
Replying to @ploink

Why do you think that’s underrated?

ploink
ploink @ploink
Replying to @tranhelen

by underrated I just mean I don’t think anyone realizes how much of a shift that is. I think when I’m talking to people online and they can see my work without me actively bringing it up or gloating paves the way for chats to turn into jobs

tranhelen
Replying to @ploink

I see what you mean. So it carries the burden of self-promotion so people don’t have to do it on their main feed?

ploink

Exactly.

Loving this about it — like an expanded bio that’s easy to access and has its own space to breathe… don’t have to cram everything in all at once.

Riley
Replying to @tranhelen

More focus on support and opening opportunities to others. Less selling/content marketing jumbo

tranhelen
Replying to @rileyj

What do you consider selling and content marketing? Like, does a design course fall under that for you?

Riley
Replying to @tranhelen

I’m thinking it comes across as the intention. If it’s someone who has a design course and is like “look this is cool check it out” the then that’s chill. If it’s more in the spectrum of someone saying “make $20k in 1 month with my design course: $50 off” then that gets old.

tranhelen
Replying to @rileyj

Ah I see. Thanks for clarifying

Matt
Replying to @tranhelen

Less toxic design bro influencer bullshit more real talk, casual photos, sharing real work, etc

Stephen Green
Replying to @mattwalker @tranhelen

I do wonder how we can achieve that. Hopefully by making it inclusive and not just white tech bro culture.

Matt
Replying to @stephengreen @tranhelen

Not sure, a mix of calling out the bullshit and not engaging with them. They can’t gain steam if they lack the engagement.

Joey Banks
Replying to @mattwalker @stephengreen @tranhelen

Yes! Also, the absence of quote Tweets/boosts should help.

Stephen Green
Replying to @joeyabanks @mattwalker @tranhelen

Sounds like someone doesn’t name their layers OR code… what do you do with all your time, actual good design work or something?

David Hoang

Joey Banks

Thanks for asking this! It’s so interesting to read through, and I love how the large themes are around increasing positivity and creating relationships.

tranhelen

The replies are interesting to me to. I have a fairly positive experience with twitter nowadays, so it’s a mind-trip to read some of it.

Joey Banks

That’s good! I know for myself and for close friends, it’s very much been the opposite these last few months. Something new feels like a breath of fresh air. 🌱

Alex Davis

I hope people open up more. Design is just a thing many of us do, it’s not the only thing (sometimes). I want to get to know people - not be inundated with the same regurgitated design thought ™️ over and over again.

Matt Wright

more real life photos/updates, and sharing more work. i’m hopeful that i can be more real and less branded here – that a personal post will read as honest instead of unprofessional

tranhelen

“honest instead of unprofessional” I feel that

Rogie

No growth hacking. No influencing. Good vibes. More candid:real stuff

Patrick Banta

joylyn

Alex Chavez
Replying to @tranhelen

Less design. I want to see what other creatives are listening to, eating, inspired by, etc.

Shaun Moynihan
Replying to @alexchavez @tranhelen

I feel like that's what I primarily get with Design twitter. I want more straight-up design.

It'll end up being similar. I'm just looking for less of the rest of the noise.

Joshua Blankenship
Replying to @tranhelen

I hope we can leave the growth hack threads and clickbait hot takes behind. I’d love to see more women and their work highlighted here. Design Twitter is pretty Bro-tastic.

David Mendes

Maybe more rough, WIP stuff like the old dribbble days? 🥲

Taimoor Nasir
Replying to @tranhelen

Not too crowded at the moment, reach is good, I started 10 minutes ago and got few followers, besides there is no bullshit just regular people sharing regular stuff, real work 🙌

Taimoor Nasir

Henry Daggett

Mia

Miguel Rengifo

Bruno Figueiredo

Stephen Waller

Less hot design takes and more hot design work, please.

Noor
Replying to @tranhelen

I think it’s a nice change of pace to other platforms and a good chance for authentic community engagement. With follower counts invisible, it’d make sense that people are more comfortable being their authentic selves too

John Reynolds
Replying to @tranhelen

Natural connections and collaborations. I get freshman year of college vibes here (in a good way). We’re all new. Let’s make friends! And see what happens.

Phil Amour
Replying to @tranhelen

I think it’s exactly like design Twitter - if not even more focused 🙈 (not necessarily a good thing)

Kohei Foss
Replying to @tranhelen

lil bits of kind advice and opportunities for growth for self taught or beginner designers w/o in your face “buy my course” sales

Ben Fryc
Replying to @tranhelen

More genuine interaction, less thought leadership grifting.

James LaCroix
Replying to @tranhelen

I hope it focuses more on building one another up, being inclusive of diverse backgrounds, and positively evolving the craft of design through constructive discourse. Less focus on hot takes or arguments that reflect poorly on the value of Design.

Ryan Mather

Less cynicism and negativity / more positivity and mutual support

Jeff Golenski
Replying to @tranhelen

More design community in regards to sharing, critique, feedback, support, etc. and less “design thought leaders” just preaching.

Mikael
Replying to @tranhelen

Less self promotion, more people just doing cool shit but not needing to pump it all the time. Just exist! And then some actual critique and discussion of the industry, the disciplines and practice.

Victor Kernes
Replying to @tranhelen

Positive vibes over negativity. Actual work being shared and constructive critique being provided. Somewhere we can all be friends.

Corwin Harrell
Replying to @tranhelen

Less reflexive. But, thats ultimately not a platform problem.

marciano

Novia Chao

Simon Gabriel

Less top level “rock star” designers who plague twitter. I don’t know how this community might change when they join here, because they will.

Todor Panev
